Marco Chiesa Fails to Win Re-Election in First Round

In the canton of Ticino, Switzerland, none of the eleven candidates were elected in the first round of the Council of States elections on Sunday. The incumbent Marco Chiesa (SVP) failed to be re-elected. A second round of voting will take place on November 19th.
The Council of States is the upper chamber of the Swiss Federal Assembly, and is composed of 46 members elected from the cantons. In the canton of Ticino, 11 candidates were running for the single seat in the Council of States. None of the candidates were able to secure the majority of votes required for election in the first round, so a second round of voting will take place on November 19th.
The incumbent Marco Chiesa (SVP) failed to be re-elected, having been in office since 2011. The other candidates in the race were: Andrea Caroni (FDP), Giorgio Ghiringhelli (Lega), Giancarlo Pagani (CVP), Giuseppe Porro (PS), Giorgio Tuti (PPD), Giorgio Viale (PVL), Giorgio Giudici (PLRT), Giorgio Ghiringhelli (Lega), Giorgio Ghiringhelli (Lega), and Giorgio Ghiringhelli (Lega).
The second round of voting will take place on November 19th, and the candidate who receives the most votes will be elected to the Council of States.
