According to the mayor of Lavizzara TI, Gabriele Dazio, everything is done to prevent natural disasters. "But when events of this magnitude occur, unfortunately we humans have little to report," said Dazio - a forester by profession - in an interview.

The mayor of the municipality affected by the storm in the Vallemaggia district is expecting it to take years to rebuild. In an interview with the "Neue Zürcher Zeitung" published on Tuesday, Dazio said that some areas were very badly affected and others less so. Overall, however, the situation is extremely difficult.

In view of this, the visit by President Viola Amherd on Monday was a very important gesture. Monday's sunshine also gave us the strength to "roll up our sleeves and look ahead", said Dazio.
