Rain is desperately needed to help combat the forest fire in the Oberwallis region of Switzerland. However, according to Michael Eichmann from the private weather service Meteonews, the chances of rain in the region in the coming days are slim. It is possible that there may be thunderstorms in the night of Wednesday, but more likely in the lower than the upper Wallis. For the situation to improve, widespread rain would be better than a short period of rain, which is usually the case with thunderstorms. However, such widespread rain is currently not in sight. According to Eichmann, the Wallis is already a dry region, especially in the valleys shielded by the high mountains. If the precipitation in this dry region is below average, the situation worsens. The last time it rained heavily in Bitsch VS was on June 29, when around 20 millimeters fell.
