There will be more money for police operations outside the canton in future: the Conference of Cantonal Justice and Police Directors (KKJPD) decided on Friday to increase the rates. This pleases Zurich's Director of Security Mario Fehr (non-party), who had submitted the proposal.
The previous agreement from 2006 still provided for an amount of 600 francs per emergency worker per day. This amount will now be increased to 750 francs, as Fehr announced at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency. The so-called Ikapol, the agreement on intercantonal police operations, will be amended accordingly.
Zurich police officers at the WEF in Davos
Fehr has criticized for years that the rates are far too low. Examples of events outside the canton include demonstrations or the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, where many Zurich police officers are deployed.
However, because the compensation rates were relatively low in the past, Zurich indirectly subsidized events in other cantons with its large police force.
Fehr presented his request to the KKJPD back in 2020. The Board discussed the issue at the time, but without making a decision. Then came the coronavirus pandemic and the topic was pushed to the back of the agenda.
