Retour au fil d'actualité

Although Zurich Airport attracted more passengers in November than in the previous year, it did not quite reach the pre-pandemic level of 2019. A total of 2.0 million passengers traveled through Switzerland's largest airport in November.

This is 13.8% more than in the same period last year, as the airport announced in a press release on Tuesday. However, this was still only 92% of the passenger volume from the last pre-corona year 2019. In the previous month of October, the airport had reached the 2019 level for the first time again.

The increase in November is primarily due to European passengers. Their number increased by 16.9% to 1.5 million. In contrast, the increase in intercontinental travelers was weaker at 6.1% to around 542,000 passengers. Just under two thirds of passengers were local passengers, while one third used Zurich Airport for transfer flights.

More flights - less freight

The number of flights rose by 6.6% year-on-year to 18,242 take-offs and landings. The monthly comparison shows that flights were again 92% of the 2019 level.

On average, 128 passengers sat on one plane. This is an increase of 4.0 percent compared to the previous year. This means that, on average, three quarters of all seats on an aircraft were occupied.

However, there was a decline in freight. Cargo volumes fell by 4.4% to around 34,300 tons. Compared to November 2019, 12% less freight was handled.

On the other hand, the tills at Zurich Airport stores were ringing: they increased their turnover by 10.4% to 45.7 million francs. This means that the stores generated higher income than in 2019 before the coronavirus crisis.
