More robberies among minors in Ticino

In Ticino, both reported sexual offenses and robberies by minors of the same age increased last year. Investigations into pornography, on the other hand, were down in 2023.
In total, the Department for Crimes against the Integrity of Persons (SRIP) in Ticino was active in more than 800 cases last year. This figure is higher than in the previous year, as the Ticino cantonal police announced on Tuesday
Among the existing cases, crimes committed by minors have also increased, from a total of 364 in the year before last to 371 cases last year.
Although the number of criminal investigations remained stable overall, the number of reported sexual offenses increased from 87 in 2022 to 117 in 2023.
The crimes investigated in this area included rape, sexual assault, sexual acts with children, sexual acts with persons lacking capacity, sexual harassment and one case of exhibitionism.
11 Robberies among minors
Among the criminal offenses committed in 2023, the number of robberies committed by minors against their peers is particularly striking. According to information from the Ticino cantonal police, this has risen significantly, from one case in 2022 to 11 cases in 2023.
According to the Ticino cantonal police, these crimes are often committed "in situations of numerical superiority". They are usually committed under threat and are characterized by physical violence.
In contrast, investigations into pornographic offenses declined last year with 66 registered cases after a sharp increase in 2022 (from 37 in 2021 to 84 in 2022).
