Most victims of discrimination in Switzerland were discriminated against last year because of their nationality, language, gender or origin. This was mainly due to psychological and verbal violence.

According to the "Discrimination and racism in Switzerland 2023" survey published on Friday by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO), over 40 percent of victims of discrimination suffered from exclusion, disregard or ridicule. Around a third stated that they had experienced verbal violence, insults and threats or bullying and insinuations.

As a result of this discrimination, almost half of the victims felt that they belonged less to society, around 40 percent experienced a deterioration in their relationship and a third avoided places or situations as a result. One fifth of the victims experienced a deterioration in their health.
