Most Rapes Occur on Weekends

A new study of victims treated in the emergency departments of the University Hospitals of Geneva and Lausanne has revealed that there are significantly more sexual assaults on weekends in Switzerland than during the week. Between 2018 and 2021, 962 reports of sexual assaults were made in the two hospitals, with 740 cases included in the analysis. The average age of the victims was 24 years old. 45% of all reported assaults occurred on Saturdays or Sundays. There was also an increase in assaults during the summer months, with the number of reported assaults being around 1.5 times higher than in the winter. Almost six out of ten victims reported knowing their attacker, and a similar proportion of assaults occurred in the victims' own homes. Around one in four people could not remember what type of penetration they had been subjected to.
