A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with several vehicles on the Oberalpstrasse in Schluein GR on Friday afternoon. Two other people were injured.

According to initial findings, the 49-year-old motorcyclist from the Principality of Liechtenstein, who lives in Austria, was driving together with his 53-year-old wife on the Oberalpstrasse from Disentis/Mustér in the direction of Flims shortly after 4.45 p.m., as reported by the Graubünden cantonal police on Saturday.

At the same time, a 31-year-old German driver, resident in the canton of Graubünden, drove onto the single lane of the main road coming from Flims in order to turn left. In doing so, she had overlooked the oncoming motorcycle and a violent head-on collision had occurred. There was then a subsequent collision between the motorcycle and a car parked at the junction, according to the report.

According to the press release, the motorcyclist succumbed to his serious injuries at the scene of the accident. The pillion passenger was flown by Rega to the Graubünden Cantonal Hospital in Chur with moderate injuries. The slightly injured female driver was taken to the Surselva regional hospital by the Surselva rescue service. The three occupants of the passenger car involved in the subsequent collision were uninjured, it was reported.

The Oberalpstrasse was completely closed for an hour in the area of the accident due to rescue and recovery work, resulting in major tailbacks.

Together with the Graubünden public prosecutor's office, the Graubünden cantonal police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
