The motto of this year's Murten Classics is "Joy". 28 concerts are on the program, from orchestral to chamber to family concerts. 350 musicians will be performing, 134 of them from Switzerland.

The Basel Symphony Orchestra, Viviane Chassot as soloist with her accordion, pianist Adrian Oetiker and Kaspar Zehnder as solo flautist will all be performing. In addition to the classical concert repertoire, which is the DNA of the summer festival in Murten, the organizers have also included border crossers in the program, such as the Lausanne Marimba Ensemble, the Ensemble Bern or Jolanda Steiner, who will perform "Puss in Boots" together with Fein Raymond & Friends.

Musically, the program ranges from Bach's Baroque to Viennese Classicism and the 19th century to contemporary music. A piece by Swiss composer Théo Schmitt will be heard for the first time in Switzerland and a composition by German-Serbian percussionist and composer Nebojsa Jovan Zivkovic will be premiered.

Those responsible want to set an example this year with their motto "Joy", as Christoph-Mathias Mueller, Artistic Director and Chief Conductor since 2021, was quoted as saying in a press release on Monday. Music is able to combine joy and sadness, light and shadow in such a way that everyone can "share the joy of the common experience", said Mueller.

This year's 36th edition of the Murten Classics is being organized and managed for the first time by the new director Sophie Hogrefe. Former director Jacqueline Keller, who stepped down last year, was responsible for production for the last time. From next year, Hogrefe will also take on this role.

The Murten Classics festival takes place from August 11 to September 1. The main performance venue is the castle courtyard with a view of Lake Murten.
