Following a search at the Realta prison in Cazis GR, the authorities have found undeclared pork in beef products. Several Muslim inmates were affected. The butcher was dismissed.

Nine beef products were confiscated during a house search in September following a criminal complaint by prison inmates, said Mathias Fässler, Head of the Cantonal Office of Corrections, to the media in Chur on Tuesday.

The "very high proportion of pork" now found in it led to the immediate release of the butcher, Fässler continued. Of the more than 200 detainees, slightly less than half are Muslim.

The authorities apologized on Tuesday for the false declaration. In addition to the exemption, initial measures also concern the procurement of meat products. Until further notice, these will only be sourced from third parties.
