The Swiss National Council's Commission for Social Security and Health (SGK-N) has proposed a new package of measures to help reduce rising healthcare costs and associated premiums. The proposal includes strengthening the midwifery profession by legally defining the analyses that midwives can carry out on mothers during childbirth. Midwives will also be able to apply certain medications without a doctor's prescription under certain conditions. The proposal also includes exempting mothers from cost-sharing for services starting from the beginning of pregnancy, rather than the current 13th week. Additionally, the digital insurance card will be given the same status as the physical card, and the duration of consultations will be included on invoices to ensure transparency. Finally, the process for reimbursing vaccinations will be simplified by involving only two, instead of three, non-parliamentary commissions. The proposal is controversial in some areas and is expected to be discussed in the National Council's autumn session. It is unclear how much money can be saved with the proposed measures.nnnnnnnnnnnnnn
