In future, all natural persons in Switzerland should submit their own tax bill, regardless of their marital status. The responsible National Council committee says yes to a corresponding popular initiative and a legislative proposal from the Federal Council.

However, the vote was a narrow one: the National Council's Economic Affairs Committee (WAK-N) voted in favor of the tax justice initiative by 13 votes to 12, as reported by the parliamentary services on Tuesday. The committee also approved the indirect counter-proposal by 13 votes to 12.

According to the press release, the strong minority is calling for a no vote on the initiative "for individual taxation independent of marital status (tax justice initiative)" by the FDP women. It also rejects the indirect counter-proposal.

The National Council is expected to discuss the bill in the fall session.
