National Council committee wants to abolish Federal Council pensions

Retired federal councillors, federal chancellors and federal judges should no longer have any privileges with regard to occupational pensions in future. The National Council committee responsible wants to abolish the retirement pension and treat magistrates like other insured persons.
The National Council's Political Institutions Committee (SPK-N) has voted in favor of a parliamentary initiative by National Councillor Rémy Wyssmann (SVP/SO) by 12 votes to 11 with one abstention, as reported by the Parliamentary Services on Friday. The sister committee of the Council of States will decide on this next.
In the opinion of a narrow majority of the SPK-N, the privileges enjoyed by magistrates with regard to their pension benefits compared to the general public can hardly be justified. A solution should therefore be sought that corresponds to standard insurance solutions.
In the opinion of the minority, the current regulation should be retained, as this is the only way to guarantee the independence of the magistrates.
