The family of the sister of Ukrainian oligarch Igor Kolomoiski will not be naturalized in Switzerland. The Federal Administrative Court has rejected an appeal by those concerned. Due to the close family and economic ties, the authorities fear a threat to Switzerland's internal and external security.

In a ruling published on Tuesday, the Federal Administrative Court stated that there were concrete indications that the sister, her husband and their youngest child had close ties to Kolomoiski. The family seeking naturalization would benefit significantly financially from this connection.

According to the court, there is a suspicion of money laundering. According to the decision, the family owns various properties in Switzerland and France - including a castle dating back to the 15th century.

Two children naturalized

Kolomoiski's sister's family have Israeli citizenship and have lived in Switzerland since the end of 2005. The two eldest of the three children were naturalized in 2015 and 2018 in the ordinary procedure.

Kolomoiski was the owner of the largest private bank in Ukraine until 2016. The bank was nationalized due to allegations of corruption. Kolomoiski is accused of diverting billions from the bank's assets. He was long a confidant of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi. (Judgement F-530/2023 from 27.6.2024)
