The new association of Swiss health insurers is called "Prio.Swiss". It is due to start operating at the beginning of January 2025, as announced by the association. The founding of the new association was preceded by a dispute between the two associations Santésuisse and Curafutura over the future outpatient tariff.
However, the split had already existed since 2013, when CSS, Helsana and Sanitas broke away from Santésuisse and founded Curafutura. KPT joined later. The main reason for the break was risk equalization. There were also conflicts over which insurers should pay how much for data management and tariff negotiations.
With the new foundation, "the existing duopoly of the two umbrella organizations Curafutura and Santésuisse is to be ended", Curafutura announced on Wednesday. In future, the players should "speak together and with one voice". The new association was also co-initiated by members of Curafutura.
Curafutura President and former Member of the Council of States Konrad Graber is stepping down for the upcoming transformation process, according to reports. During the transition period, Felix Gutzwiller, also a former member of the FDP Council of States, will lead the association as President.
The new association and its members will represent "practically 100 percent of insured persons", the association announced. The name "Prio.Swiss" stands for the association's priority of working together for a high-quality and sustainably financed healthcare system for Switzerland.
According to the press release, the participating health insurers also agreed on the priorities of the new association. Within the framework of compulsory health insurance, the association will deal with the political framework and the development of basic principles in the areas of health policy, tariff structures, care and quality as well as data and standardization. The association will be responsible for all political activities in these areas.
