Retour au fil d'actualité
Tuesday brought a lot of rain to Switzerland until the early evening. In the foothills of the Alps and mountain regions, there was widespread precipitation of between 50 and 70 millimetres. It will be windy again in the night to Wednesday.
The most rain fell on La Dole in the Vaud Jura until shortly before 5 p.m. with 100 millimetres, as the weather service Meteonews wrote in its blog. The Valais towns of Salvan and Leukerbad were in second place with 95 millimetres of precipitation each. They are followed by Magglingen BE above Biel with 84 millimetres of precipitation.
It continues to rain
A further 15 to 30 millimetres of precipitation is expected by Wednesday morning, especially along the foothills of the Alps, with slightly more locally, according to Meteonews. In addition, the south-westerly wind will pick up during the night. On the Central Plateau, the weather service is expecting widespread gusts of 50 to 70 kilometers per hour and gale-force winds in some places. The mountains are also likely to be stormy again.
The storm depression "Jasper" had already brought turbulent hours to Switzerland on Tuesday night. The westerly föhn wind pushed up the night-time temperatures.
Gale-force gusts on the Jungfrau
It was 19.4 degrees in Thun on Tuesday night, according to MeteoSwiss, the Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology. On both sides of the Alps, it remained mild for the time of year throughout the day at 12 to 16 degrees. In the north, continuous rain fell with a continuing stormy westerly wind. In the south, the sun shone from time to time.
The gale in the mountains blew hardest on the Jungfraujoch BE, with gusts peaking at 177 kilometers per hour. The wind speed there reached the eighth-highest November value. It also blew hard on the Säntis AR with 137 km/h, followed by the Wildspitz SZ with 124 km/h, according to Meteonews. On the Chasseral BE in the Jura, the west wind was blowing at 115 km/h.
Further severe weather warnings
On Monday, the federal government had already warned of a rapid rise in water levels, flooding and landslides for parts of Vaud and Lower Valais as well as for the Saanenland in the canton of Bern until midday on Wednesday.
On Tuesday evening, the cantonal authorities of Fribourg echoed this warning. In particular, they warned on the Alertswiss app not to go near bodies of water that are flooding or to go into cellars or underground garages if there is a risk of flooding. Flooded roads should not be used by car or bicycle, they also said.
Meanwhile, the Basel authorities advised against going to the Rhine as it was flooding. There were also warnings due to flooding rivers in the cantons of Geneva and Vaud.
The Thur was also flooding, the canton of Thurgau reported via Alertswiss. The affected area should be avoided.
