On October 22nd, four male and five female candidates will compete for the two Wallis seats in the Swiss Council of States. The two incumbents, Marianne Maret and Beat Rieder, are running for re-election. Seven other candidates are also vying for the seats. These include National Councillors Philippe Nantermod (FDP) and Jean-Luc Addor (SVP), Céline Dessimoz, the Green Party's leader in the Great Council, Aferdita Bogiqi from Monthey, the president of the German-speaking SP-Sektion, Claudia Alpiger, and the Green Liberals' first-ever Ständeratskandidatur, Jeannette Salzmann and Philippe Jansen.
