Opponents of the highway expansion have expressed their satisfaction with the likely "no" vote on the bill. The vote shows that the population cannot simply be promised anything.

He was pleasantly surprised that the gap between urban and rural areas and between German-speaking Switzerland and French-speaking Switzerland was apparently less wide than expected, David Raedler from the No committee told the Keystone-SDA news agency. He is co-president of the Swiss Transport Club (VCS).

From Raedler's point of view, the opponents prevailed with the argument that higher capacities would not solve the problem of congestion in the long term. The costs and the impact of an expansion on nature also played a role in the decision.

Together with other organizations, the VCS took part in the referendum against the freeway expansion and played a key role in the No campaign.
