Geneva Airport resumed normal operations on Thursday morning. According to Geneva Airport, the incident on Wednesday evening, in which an aircraft got stuck on the runway, only had a minor impact.

The incident affected 81 flights with a total of 6500 passengers, Geneva Airport announced on Thursday morning. Twelve flights were diverted to other airports, mainly Lyon, Zurich or Basel. Affected passengers were accommodated in hotels or on camp beds.

The private jet went off course while crossing the runway and got stuck in the grass next to the runway due to the poor weather conditions, it was reported. The airport rescue and firefighting service was able to free the aircraft using several lifting techniques.

German Development Minister Svenja Schulze was also affected by the airport closure. Her trip to Israel, where she wanted to speak with representatives of the Israeli government and the Palestinian Authority, ultimately had to be canceled.
