"Switzerland must be able to use all CO2-free electricity sources in order to be prepared for the future. This also includes nuclear power." This is what the "Neue Zürcher Zeitung" wrote in its commentary on Wednesday. The U-turn is right. The world is no longer the same as the one in which the decision to phase out nuclear power was made.
"The war in Ukraine and the ensuing energy crisis have shaken up certainties that had long been thought to be safe - and ruthlessly exposed the blind spots in the energy strategy adopted at the time. Switzerland can no longer rely on imported electricity in winter. It is also clear that the expansion of domestic electricity production is progressing far too slowly because environmental associations and other organizations are blocking important projects," writes the newspaper.
