Pro-Palestinian students at the University of Neuchâtel interrupted the occupation of a building on Wednesday evening. They wanted to facilitate a dialog with the rectorate.
"We took a step in their direction by agreeing to suspend the occupation overnight," members of the collective told a journalist from the Keystone-SDA news agency. "But the rectorate has shown itself to be completely closed and refuses to engage in peaceful dialog. We are disappointed." The students wanted to meet on Thursday morning to decide how to proceed.
In a joint statement on Wednesday evening, Neuchâtel councillors from the SVP, FDP and Green Liberals denounced "this illegal occupation" and called on the Rectorate and the State Council to react immediately.
