Off-road vehicle drives into the terrace of a restaurant in Lugano

A 65-year-old Italian man drove into the outside area of a restaurant on the Riva Vincenzo Vela in Lugano shortly before 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Six people were taken to hospital, according to the Ticino cantonal police.
Among them was the driver of the SUV, who was in a serious condition as of Tuesday afternoon, according to the police. According to an initial medical assessment, the five restaurant guests who were also taken to hospital did not suffer any serious injuries. One other person received initial treatment at the scene of the accident.
Man, who comes from the Italian province of Sassari in Sardinia, was driving towards Paradiso TI when he lost control of his car for unknown reasons, left the road and drove into the restaurant's glass-protected outdoor area.
