One fifth of Swiss households heat with heat pumps

Since 2000, the proportion of heat pumps in Swiss households has increased fivefold. This is shown by the new building and housing statistics from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO), which were published on Monday.
According to the FSO, there were 1.79 million buildings used for residential purposes and 4.79 million apartments in Switzerland in 2023. 37% of buildings were heated with heating oil, 17% with gas - and 21% used a heat pump for heating. This means that the proportion of heat pumps has increased fivefold since 2000
