Retour au fil d'actualité

The organization "Bauern Unternehmen" launched a campaign against the biodiversity initiative on Monday. The association of agricultural producers describes the referendum as extreme. In contrast to consumers' wishes for regional products, it would lead to more food imports.

According to the association, the initiative is cutting back on agricultural land. As a result, fewer and fewer regional products could be produced. The degree of self-sufficiency and security of supply would decrease if the initiative were accepted.

The effects of the initiative would be counterproductive. The area required for extensive agricultural production is greater and the pressure on biodiversity is therefore increasing, argues the farming company.

Switzerland could buy food worldwide if it switched to extensive agriculture. However, this would mean that more land would have to be used for production globally, which in turn would harm biodiversity. The initiative is therefore ultimately unethical.
