Retour au fil d'actualité
Several nature and landscape conservation organizations as well as the Green Party Uri and the SP Uri have spoken out against investor Samih Sawiris' marina project in Isleten UR. They called for the future of Isleten to be rethought, as announced by IG Isleten.
In order to find a solution between landscape protection and industrial heritage worthy of preservation, the current plan must be stopped, according to a press release issued by the Isleten interest group (IG) on Thursday evening. Once the existing foundations have been laid, a public discussion about the future of the former industrial site is needed.
Among others, the Swiss Foundation for Landscape Conservation, the Franz Weber Foundation, the Central Swiss Heritage Society and Pro Natura Uri supported the appeal.
The Isleten is an important witness to 400 years of industrial history in the canton of Uri and Switzerland, wrote the IG. The production, storage and administration buildings would be severely endangered by the planned project. In addition, Lake Lucerne is mentioned in the Federal Inventory of Landscapes and Natural Monuments worthy of protection. The Isleten is one of the defining elements of the area, it continued.
Popular initiative is pending
Egyptian investor Sawiris wants to build a hotel with 50 rooms and 30 hotel apartments as well as 70 apartments and seven bungalows on the peninsula.
The Green Party of Uri had already formulated a popular initiative to protect the Isleten. The government will decide on the validity of the "Isleten for all" initiative in August 2024. A cantonal vote could probably take place in November.
