The outgoing SVP President Marco Chiesa has announced that he will run for the city council in Lugano TI in April. This was confirmed by the President of the Ticino SVP, Piero Marchesi, at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency.
The part-time position would be a good addition to his work as a member of the Council of States in Ticino. It was the right time and Lugano was his home town, Chiesa told CH Media on the fringes of a meeting of the Ticino SVP in Maggia TI on Wednesday evening.
An election campaign between the sister parties Lega and SVP is now in the offing in Lugano, the report continued. Chiesa had already done very well in the Council of States elections in Lugano last fall, which is why an election to the city council would be likely. The current mayor of Lugano is Michele Foletti (Lega).
Mr. Chiesa from Ticino announced at the end of last year that he would not be standing for re-election as SVP President.
