Outgoing US envoy Kerry wants to continue working for the climate

Experienced US diplomat John Kerry wants to continue his commitment to the fight against climate change after leaving his post as US climate envoy. "Now we have to make sure that the private sector really takes action," said Kerry in Davos GR.
A "great result" was achieved at the World Climate Conference (COP28) in Dubai in December, Kerry told the AFP news agency on Wednesday on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) and spoke of a "turning point".
US President Joe Biden appointed Kerry as the first special envoy for climate issues at cabinet level when he took office in early 2021. The former Secretary of State, senator and 2004 Democratic presidential candidate represented the USA at three world climate summits.
Among other things, Kerry tried to persuade China to cooperate in the fight against climate change despite the strained relations with the USA, and was able to show some success in doing so. The 80-year-old Kerry now wants to campaign for Biden's re-election.
