It is estimated that just over 1000 people took part in an unauthorized demonstration in Zurich on Saturday afternoon to mark International Women's Day on Friday. Apart from a few incidents of damage to property, the demonstration was peaceful.

Various radical left-wing groups had called for the rally. The police were on site with a large contingent, but kept a low profile for the time being. The atmosphere among the mostly female participants was largely peaceful. The demonstrators called for "the end of patriarchy and capitalism" and "freedom for Palestine", among other things.

At Paradeplatz, traffic on various streetcar lines was restricted on Saturday lunchtime due to the demonstration, according to the Zurich Transport Authority (VBZ).

A demonstration set off before 3 p.m., with many participants wearing masks. Along the route there were isolated incidents of paint bags being thrown and other damage to property. The procession ended at Helvetiaplatz at around 4 pm.

Already on Friday evening, unauthorized rallies with several hundred participants each took place in Zurich and Winterthur in connection with International Women's Day.
