AHV and IV pensioners in need of assistance who receive supplementary benefits should be able to live at home more thanks to care. Support is to be provided for household help, for example. Parliament can now decide on the necessary amendments to the law.

On Friday, the Federal Council adopted the dispatch on the amendment of the law on supplementary benefits for old-age, survivors' and disability insurance. According to the Federal Council, there is a need to be able to live in one's own home for as long as possible despite old age, illness or disability.

The additional costs for the cantons are estimated at around CHF 340 to 730 million for 2030. In contrast, the cantons will be able to save around CHF 280 million because fewer people will have to live in a care home. The supplementary benefits for living at home are to be paid to AHV pensioners as well as recipients of IV pensions.

Depending on requirements, the costs of domestic help, meal services, transportation and escort services and an emergency call system are covered.
