Parliament wants to promote the installation of charging stations for electric cars with tax deductions. It has instructed the Federal Council to amend the ordinance accordingly. After the Council of States, the National Council also approved a corresponding motion on Monday.

The large chamber adopted the proposal by Marianne Maret, a member of the Council of States from the canton of Valais, by 135 votes to 43 with 15 abstentions. The Federal Council must now set about implementing it.

Maret explained her concern that tenants are currently refraining from buying an electric car because there is no charging station in their apartment building.

The Federal Council wanted to see the motion converted into a review mandate. However, the proposal did not find a majority.

A minority of the pre-advisory committee from the SP opposed the proposal. They preferred direct funding for charging stations. Tax deductions were inefficient due to the threat of deadweight effects. In addition, it would mainly benefit people with high incomes.
