Rising healthcare costs must not be ignored in the future. The party presidents of the SP, SVP, Center Party and FDP agreed on this in the elephant round on "Blick-TV". The FDP and SVP brought a reduction in basic insurance benefits into play.
FDP President Thierry Burkhart suggested starting with the obligatory basic health insurance catalog. This had become increasingly inflated in recent years, he said. He also pleaded for minimum case numbers for individual hospitals.
SVP President Marcel Dettling also called for restrictions to the basic catalog. He also criticized the fact that refugees were immediately entitled to all benefits. According to Dettling, everyone who comes to Switzerland immediately has the "Ferrari benefits" at their disposal. This would be financed by the remaining premium payers.

SP Co-President Cédric Wermuth sees the best solution in a public health insurance fund. The Social Democrats announced an initiative to this effect on Sunday. "There are far too many people in the healthcare system who profit at the expense of others," he said. For example, the pharmaceutical industry is protected by politicians. Parliament has blocked many solutions because many lobbyists sit there, said the SP Co-President.
The Social Democrat is also hoping for the effect of the indirect counter-proposal, which will now come into force following the rejection. Implementation in the cantons will show whether this is sufficient.
"We are convinced that the problem must be tackled at its roots," said Center President Gerhard Pfister. The Center Party will continue to campaign for low premiums. An analysis of the results of Sunday's votes will now show exactly how.
