More and more people are departing from or arriving at Swiss airports. From July to September alone, Zurich, Geneva and Basel recorded 16.6 million passengers in local and transit traffic.
This is one million or 6 percent more than in the same period last year and only 0.3 percent less than in 2019, the year before the coronavirus pandemic began, according to the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) on Friday.
The number of aircraft movements (take-offs and landings) also increased in the third quarter of this year compared to 2023, rising by 5 percent to 120,000. The air traffic statistics are based on the Airstat database of the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA).
