Interpharma, the association of research-based pharmaceutical companies, is calling for faster availability of approved medicines in Switzerland. The current process for pricing and reimbursement is outdated and needs to be modernized.

Approved medicines are only available to patients once the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) has set a price and included the medicine on the specialty list (SL). Today, the process between approval and inclusion on the SL takes over 300 days - an "all-time high", as Interpharma announced on Wednesday. The association appealed to the FOPH, the health insurance associations and parliament to speed up the process.

In the press release, the association compared the situation here with that in Germany: only around half of the medicines reimbursed in Germany are also on the specialty list in Switzerland as standard. According to Interpharma, this corresponds to a deterioration of eight percent compared to the previous year and is a sign of a negative trend that has been evident for years.
