Police officers’ association “dismayed” by Basel police report

The Association of Swiss Police Officers has reacted "with great dismay" to the results of an investigation report on the mood in the Basel police force. The report revealed numerous grievances and a miserable working atmosphere among police officers.
The Association of Swiss Police Officers (VSPB) condemns the uncovered facts of sexism, racism and all forms of discrimination "in the strongest terms", as it announced on Monday. It is calling on the police leadership and politicians to provide transparent, swift and comprehensive clarification.
Employees, regardless of rank and position, who treat their colleagues in this way have no place in a police force, it continues. According to the VSPB, such acts should be reported to the police.
The Basel police commander Martin Roth commissioned an independent survey of police corps employees to investigate the reasons for the staff shortage. Around one hundred corps positions are currently unfilled.
As a first consequence of the report published around a week and a half ago, the head of the Department of Justice and Security, Stephanie Eymann (LDP), dismissed the police commander.
