At the residence of AfD politician Alice Weidel in Einsiedeln SZ, there was a police operation. The background was a "security-relevant incident", as a party spokesman told the news agency dpa. The Schwyzer police confirmed the operation. On September 23, the Swiss Cantonal Police of Schwyz responded to an incident involving Alice Weidel, a prominent German politician. According to multiple media reports, Weidel and her family were taken to a secure location by security authorities from their private residence due to indications of a potential attack on her family. The Cantonal Police of Schwyz declined to provide further information on the incident. On the day of German Unity on October 3rd, Weidel canceled an appearance in Germany due to security concerns. On Tuesday, out of caution, she refrained from public appearances, said the party spokesman. Therefore, Weidel did not participate in an AfD event for the Bavarian state election in Bavarian-Thuringian Mödlareuth as planned. It remained unclear how long Weidel would refrain from public appearances. On the occasion of German Unity Day, the CDU and CSU had invited to a rally. Numerous counter-demonstrators of the AfD rally had also come to stand up for democracy and openness to the world and against right-wing extremism. According to the police headquarters of Upper Franconia and the Thuringian police, everything remained peaceful until the afternoon. According to the figures, a total of 5,000 to 6,000 people came to the town. The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), responsible for the protection of politicians, told the news agency AFP in response to a request that the cancellation of Weidel's participation in the event on Tuesday was "not at the instigation or recommendation of the BKA". Furthermore, the agency cannot provide any information on "tactical measures or risk factors".nn
