On Tuesday, out of caution, she refrained from public appearances, said the party spokesman. Therefore, Weidel did not participate in an AfD event for the Bavarian state election in Bavarian-Thuringian Mödlareuth as planned. It remained unclear how long Weidel would refrain from public appearances. On the occasion of German Unity Day, the CDU and CSU had invited to a rally. Numerous counter-demonstrators of the AfD rally had also come to stand up for democracy and openness to the world and against right-wing extremism. According to the police headquarters of Upper Franconia and the Thuringian police, everything remained peaceful until the afternoon. According to the figures, a total of 5,000 to 6,000 people came to the town. The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), responsible for the protection of politicians, told the news agency AFP in response to a request that the cancellation of Weidel's participation in the event on Tuesday was "not at the instigation or recommendation of the BKA".
