Police stop train with rowdy youths in Zurich

Zurich police arrested 19 young people in Stäfa and at Zurich Tiefenbrunnen station on Sunday night. The minors, aged between 15 and 17, had previously gone on the rampage in various places.
Shortly after midnight, a report was received that a group of young people were harassing a bus driver at Stäfa station, the Zurich cantonal police said on Sunday.
According to police reports, when the first police patrols arrived at the station, around 20 youths had changed trains to the S16 and were blocking the departure of the Zurich-bound train. When police officers carried out identity checks, they were attacked by the youths, according to the statement: "The rioters entered the tracks and threw stones at the officers". The police used pepper spray and arrested four people.
At around 01:20, the S16 - with a group of young people on board - set off. In consultation with the SBB, the police had the train stopped at Zurich Tiefenbrunnen station. There, 15 youths were escorted out of the carriages and arrested, the police write.
The 19 people arrested come from Switzerland, Italy, Somalia and the Czech Republic. They will be referred to the Office of the Juvenile Prosecutor. Together with the Zurich cantonal police, the Zurich and Uster municipal police, the Küsnacht municipal police, SBB Intervention, the Zurich City Youth Prosecutor's Office and, as a precautionary measure, rescue vehicles from Zurich Protection & Rescue were deployed.
