The President of the Swiss Charitable Society (SGG), Nicola Forster, will step down from his position in June 2024. Forster made the decision after the Board of Directors adopted a new strategy, the SGG announced on Wednesday.

After reaching this milestone, Forster decided to hand over the presidency to new hands at the end of his four-year term of office. The Board of Directors is currently looking for a successor.

Forster has been in office since December 2020. He was elected at the time with the task of bringing new impetus to the historic organization. The new strategy was developed under his aegis. According to a press release, this is intended to take the SGG's historic pioneering role into the future and sharpen its focus.

According to this strategy, the SGG intends to continue its commitment in areas such as volunteering and individual assistance. However, it now also wants to bring together more stakeholders to solve pressing social issues and launch innovative pilot projects.

At the end of August, SGG Managing Director Peter Haerle announced that he would be leaving SGG. He will leave at the end of January 2024.

Just last June, the SGG, which has managed the Rütli for 160 years and organizes the Rütil celebration on 1 August, reshuffled its board. Jürg Kallay, who was responsible for finance, had to leave the board. New board members proposed by Kallay were not elected.

The majority of SGG members voted in line with the proposal of the rest of the Board. Kallay had been accused of wanting to pull the Board to the right politically with his own candidates.

Following the Board elections, the SGG announced at the time that further cultural and organizational developments were now on the agenda that would need to be supported in the long term. Such a long-term commitment was not in line with Haerle's plans.
