Higher wages are not an effective solution to the labour shortage, according to Severin Moser, President of the Swiss Employers Association (SAV). He warned that it would be particularly damaging if the public sector were to increase wages. Instead, companies should focus on improving working conditions and offering additional benefits to attract and retain employees. Switzerland is dependent on foreign labour, but cannot simply increase migration. Moser noted that Germany, France and Italy would not allow Switzerland to poach their workers with higher wages. In summary, Moser believes that higher wages are not the answer to the labour shortage, and that companies should focus on improving working conditions and offering additional benefits to attract and retain employees.
