In order to protect youth from pornographic content on the internet, the Swiss National Council has decided to implement an information requirement for providers of such sites. This requirement will make the parents aware of possible protective measures. The motion proposed by Niklaus-Samuel Gugger (EVP/ZH) was accepted by the National Council, and will now be implemented by the Federal Council. The Council rejected Gugger's proposal for a network blockade, as such blockades can easily be circumvented. The Federal Council also stated that the motion's objectives were already fulfilled by existing laws and regulations, such as Article 46a of the Telecommunications Act, which requires providers of internet access to advise their customers on the possibilities of child and youth protection.
