Rail traffic at Renens VD station is expected to be completely disrupted on Thursday until the end of operations due to a damaged transmission cable. Trains between Renens and Morges on the Lausanne-Geneva line have been canceled, according to SBB.
The transmission cable was damaged during maintenance work at Renens station on Thursday night. Repair teams are on site and will repair the damage, according to the railroad company. The duration of the work was not foreseeable.
Trains are running between Lausanne and Renens and between Morges and Bussigny. Around 30 replacement buses are running in between. Travel times have been extended by up to two hours in some cases.
SBB called on customers to refrain from traveling on the Lake Geneva route. In addition to commuter trains, the Inter-City trains IC5 and IC1 as well as the Interregio IR90 were also affected, according to the SBB website.
The rail disruption led to numerous traffic jams on the roads on Thursday morning, particularly in the Lausanne catchment area. In the city of Geneva, the transport company suspended line 9 and put the six buses at the disposal of the SBB. According to the information provided, the decision was made in favor of line 9 because two parallel lines run there.
