The extension of the participation of Swiss researchers in the EU research program Horizon Europe is a "clear sign of goodwill" on the part of the EU Commission in the negotiation process between the EU and Switzerland. The decision goes beyond what the Commission had committed to in the common understanding.
This was announced on Thursday by the European Research Council (ERC), which is part of the European Commission. Researchers in Switzerland can apply for three ERC calls for proposals in 2025. The deadline for this is August 29, 2024.
Specifically, this concerns the Starting Grant, the Consolidator Grant and the Synergy Grant, as the ERC went on to say. However, the agreements on any grants could only be signed if the association agreement between Switzerland and the EU was in force at the time.
