On Monday, numerous long-standing temperature records were broken after a record-breaking warm September. By 5 pm on October 2nd, no less than 20 stations of Meteoschweiz registered new highest temperatures since the start of measurements. On Monday evening, the Swiss Federal Office of Meteorology (Meteoschweiz) announced that several decades-long records had been broken. In Buffalora at the Ofenpass GR - usually known for its cold records - the temperature rose to 21.3 degrees, surpassing the October record set only on Sunday by one degree. On Monday, the October records set on Sunday at Chasseral (19.9 degrees), Piz Corvatsch (8.1), Jungfraujoch (6.9) or in Evolène VS were also only one day old. On October 3rd, 1962, Samedan GR set a record high temperature of 21 degrees Celsius, making it the oldest record for an October day. The previous record was 21 degrees Celsius. The Weißfluhjoch recorded 16.7 degrees Celsius, significantly higher than the previous record of 15.1 degrees Celsius on October 11th, 1978. The decades-old October record in Fahy JU of 27.3 degrees on October 3, 1985, and that of Grimsel Hospiz of 18.5 degrees on October 4, 1985, were both surpassed on Monday. The new records are 27.6 and 19.5 degrees, respectively.
