Rega Swiss Air-Rescue rescued seven people and a dog stuck in a chairlift in Ticino on Wednesday. A helicopter brought them safely from the chairlift from Cardada to Cimetta, a few kilometers north of Locarno, to the valley station.

This morning, the seven people and the dog were hoisted onto an evacuation triangle by specialists using a rope and then flown down into the valley, as reported by the Rega base in Locarno. Such missions are rather rare.

The chairlift from Cardada to Cimetta was first put into operation in 1954. According to the operators, it is the last chairlift in Switzerland still in operation that was designed with side-facing seats. It is designed to provide a better view on the ascent and descent.
