Swiss researchers have developed a new method of mapping snow depths on a large area using aerial photographs. This method, known as photogrammetry, is more cost-effective than other approaches such as lasers, drones, or satellite data. The researchers were able to map the snow cover on an area of 250 square kilometres with an accuracy of 15 centimetres and a resolution of half a metre. This data is important for predicting natural hazards such as avalanches and floods, as well as for improving models used by power companies to estimate the amount of water in the snow cover. The map covers the region from Klosters GR to Piz Forun GR.nnnnnnnnnn
