With the start of negotiations, researchers from Switzerland will once again have access to certain Horizon Europe programs, as President Viola Amherd said. Proposals from Switzerland would be treated as proposals from an associated country.

Researchers in Switzerland are now eligible to apply for the European Research Council's ERC Advanced Grants 2024, as announced by Ms Amherd's department on Monday. Speaking to Swiss media representatives in Brussels at the start of the negotiations, the President of the Swiss Confederation spoke of a "new phase in relations".

The aim is to stabilize and further develop the partnership. Companies should be able to export their products to the European Union without any hurdles, said Amherd. Furthermore, good and close cooperation is needed in the electricity market.

During her visit to Brussels, the President of the Swiss Confederation met the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, as well as the Executive Vice-President of the Commission, Maros Sefcovic. In addition to bilateral relations, geopolitical and security policy challenges for Europe were also discussed.
