The textile machinery group Rieter is planning further job cuts. According to a statement issued by Angestellte Schweiz on Friday, this could affect over 10 percent of the workforce in Switzerland.

Rieter confirmed to the news agency AWP that the company is currently in a consultation process with employee representatives. However: "We will only be able to comment on this once the process has been completed."

The potential downsizing at Rieter would continue the staff reductions of recent years. The long-established company has already undergone several phases of restructuring.

Employees Switzerland is now calling on the company management to "assume comprehensive social responsibility and ensure that all decisions are implemented with the greatest possible consideration for the employees affected." The company should seriously consider alternatives to redundancies in order to minimize the negative impact on the workforce.
