The pharmaceutical company Roche is expanding its site in Rotkreuz ZG. A new diagnostics production building will be constructed at a cost of 215 million Swiss francs. The foundation stone was laid on Tuesday (today), Roche announced in a press release.

The state-of-the-art production facility will cover an area of around 29,000 square meters and should be completed by 2027. The new building will replace an old production building that has reached the end of its service life after around three decades, the statement continued.

The development and introduction of new tests and systems for the rapid and reliable diagnosis of diseases requires additional space at the Rotkreuz site, which the existing infrastructure can no longer provide.

This will expand the production area and increase efficiency. "Roche is thus sending a clear signal of the importance of Rotkreuz as a production site and underlining its clear commitment to Switzerland," wrote the Basel-based company. Rotkreuz is one of the most important sites of the Roche Diagnostics Division and, with around 2,700 employees, is the largest private employer in the canton of Zug.
