During the Black Friday discount battle, Swiss retailers mainly made money with electronic goods. According to market researcher GfK, smartphones sold best.

Specifically, technical consumer goods worth CHF 125.7 million were sold during Black Week 2023. This sales volume was therefore one percent higher than the previous year's figure, as GfK reported on Tuesday.

At 44.1 million francs, retailers generated the highest turnover with the high demand for smartphones. Compared to 2022, retailers generated almost 6 million or 15.4% more. According to GfK, premium devices did particularly well. As a result, the average price of a smartphone rose from 515 to over 600 francs.

Laptops brought in the second-highest amount. However, at 26.1 million Swiss francs, sales here declined by 2.3 million or 8.1 percent.

Televisions followed in third place with a sales volume of CHF 24.3 million and a drop in sales of just under 9%. Compared to 2021, the decline was even almost 20 percent. This decline is attributed to numerous promotions in the run-up to Black Week as well as "increasing market saturation", according to the report.
