SBB Cargo International has ordered 20 Vectron multi-system locomotives from Siemens Mobility in cooperation with SüdLeasing GmbH. This order brings the total number of Vectrons sold to Switzerland to 180 vehicles.

The locomotives will be leased on the basis of a long-term rental concept with a flexible term, according to a statement issued by Siemens Switzerland on Thursday. The contract also includes maintenance of the vehicles by Siemens for 15 years.

The Vectron locomotives are designed for a maximum operating speed of 160 km/h and will be used for transalpine traffic. Vectron is the ideal locomotive for use between the Netherlands and Italy, according to a statement from SBB Cargo. The company now has a total of 78 Vectron locomotives.
